What is the Difference Between a Hex Tap Bolt & Hex Cap Screw?

Hex cap screws and hex tap bolts are two different styles of hex fasteners. Hex head cap screws are available in both fully-threaded and partially-threaded options. However, fully-threaded hex cap screws are not available in all sizes and are often partially-threaded in lengths greater than 1 ¼”. Hex tap bolts are always fully threaded, no matter their length, and must be fastened with a compatible nut.
