Standard finished hex nuts are offered in different grades that denote their material strength, specifically to be matched with a corresponding bolt for consistency. The diameter and thread pitch must correspond to the threaded fastener as well to avoid failure or stripping of the threads. Hex nuts are utilized in a variety of industries, as the customization options allow for use in most any application. Lower strength, grade 2 hex nuts are common in automotive and machinery applications as are the medium grade 5 hex nuts. Grade 8 hex nuts can be found in heavy machinery or used for structural components that demand strength and durability. If the hex nut ratings are insufficient, consider the heavy hex nut offering for pairing with structural grade bolts.
- GRADE 2: These hex nuts are manufactured of low-carbon steel supporting a tensile strength of around 60,000psi.
- GRADE 5: These hex nuts are manufactured of medium-carbon steel, supporting a tensile strength of around 120,000 psi.
- GRADE 8: These hex nuts are manufactured of medium-carbon alloy steel, supporting a tensile strength of around 150,000 psi.
