Nylon Insert Locknuts

Nylon insert locknuts are a type of locknut featuring a similar design to ‘lock’ the nut in place with the added security of a nylon ring. The nut’s body is manufactured of steel or stainless steel with a nylon ring fitted at the top of the nut against the locking depression. When choosing a nylon locknut to accompany a threaded fastener, it’s imperative to ensure the dimensions and thread pitch match that of the bolt. As the nylon insert locknut is tightened, the nylon compresses to the bolt threads creating a tight connection. The increased friction helps prevent the nylock from loosening in high vibration applications.

Nylon locknuts have a lower temperature tolerance than that of all metal locknuts which needs to be taken into consideration for any applications subject to extreme heat. Nylon insert locknuts are especially helpful for use in machinery or automotive applications where vibrations are prevalent. While nylocks are reusable, the nylon will breakdown with repeated use or in high stress applications making it critical to inspect the nylock prior to reuse.
