Nylon insert locknuts are a type of locking nut featuring a nylon ring positioned against the internal threading of the nut. As the nylon insert locknut is tightened, the nylon compresses to the bolt threads creating a tight connection. The increased friction caused by the nylon ring helps prevent the nut from loosening in high vibration applications. Nylocks are heavily utilized in the automotive, aerospace and machinery industries for their superior hold in application with heavy vibrations. Nylon locknuts are offered in different metal compositions, with different strengths, to fit the needs for the application allowing a user to make the best selection. Keeping in mind that some applications under extreme heat have to ensure the integrity of the nylon component which will have a lower tolerance than metal. Users will also need to confirm the nylock diameter and pitch match that of the mating bolt to ensure a sound fit between the threads.
