- Self-piercing screw: Screws with a very sharp point that allow them to penetrate materials without pre-drilling holes.
- Deck screw: Screws with a point, intended to join treated lumber. Most deck screws will offer different plating and drive styles.
- Particle board screw: Screws with a very sharp point, intended for use in dense material such as particle board. Particle board screws offer different head and drive styles and are shorter in length than standard drywall screws.
